JD: Snotty Duwop says, “I wanna know who or what inspired you to start rapping?”

NaS: Snotty Duwop…what inspired me to start rappin’. It would have to be—I think I was just a kid at the time when rap hit. Y’know what I’m sayin? It just hit. It was reggae, it was the Mary Jane girls, Rick James, Atlantic Star, all the early 80’s music thing was happenin’…but this rap thing I just kept hearin’ and hearin’ and hearin’ and it just got better and better. So, I think from Slick Rick all the way to Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Run DMC, Melly Mel, Furious 5, Double Trouble from the movie Wild Style. That was the beginning, beginning. I was like a kid.

Q:what would you be doing if you weren't a rapper..
A: hate that title. i outgrew that. if I wasn't a rapper I would be a writer, putting together drawings for movies, story boards, before i even knew what a story board was. livin' my life.

Q: what keeps you going?
A: what keeps me motivated is.. there is so much to do and get done.. no one is going to give it to you... you have to do it yourself... you cant start to slip and slack. I am trying for new surprises.

Q: how do you feel about your album not being allowed to call it what you originally planned?
A: I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I fought and fought.. I am not fighting for the name..it's about getting the music in the stores.. but I did not want to give up.

Q: how do you feel about young rappers carrying weapons? do you think theyre part of the problem or the solution?
A: some are real and some are gansta and some are just acting gangsta. problem with gangsta is over... if you dont know that.. gangsta try to stay out of jail..

A: dont have a fav song or album... I dont like when they play my me in the
like to lsiten a year and half after

Q: favor insipration for your songs and favorite artist
A: cant say I have a favortie... one I like is shade or phil collins, or stevie wonder. some of mine are not with us.,

A: what ever is around me, rick james. debarg,

A: slick rick lada, RUN_DMC, melly mell.. double trouble, wild styule the early beginning.

Q: would you work withyour dad
A: when my mom passed mom passed I wanted to get to know my dad better. and I wanted to do something with him and different. and since my friends didnt know thier dads... a lot of us did not have father... showing a son and his father together.. I learned from my dad.... dont know if we'll perfrom afgain.
